Fadamiro named assistant dean and director of global programs

AUBURN, Ala. —Auburn University alumni professor and researcher Henry Fadamiro has been named assistant dean and director of global programs in the College of Agriculture, effective Sept. 1, Dean Bill Batchelor has announced.

“Agriculture knows no geographical boundaries. It is the world’s largest industry, and so this new position in global programs will be very important for us moving forward,” Batchelor said. “Dr. Fadamiro brings extensive academic, administrative and leadership experience with him. We are proud to see him step into this new role.”

Fadamiro has served at Auburn since 2003, starting as an assistant professor in the department of entomology and plant pathology. In 2012, he attained full-professor status and also was named to a one-year appointment as the Auburn University Presidential Administrative Fellow. He has held a variety of leadership and administrative positions in the area of integrated pest management (IPM), including his current roles as associate director of the Southern Region IPM Center in Raleigh, North Carolina, and as state IPM coordinator for the Alabama Cooperative Extension System.

“It is a great honor to be selected to serve in this new capacity to provide leadership for global programs in the college and help build an international dimension in our teaching, research and extension programs,” Fadamiro said. “I am encouraged by the fact that many of our faculty members have already established collaborations with individuals and institutions around the globe and am very excited about the opportunity to work with all stakeholders to strengthen and consolidate existing ties, develop new strategic partnerships, and elevate global programs in the college and university.”

Fadamiro has done extensive work with Auburn’s Office of International Programs and other administrative units to develop an initiative to facilitate international programming at the university. Working with various teams, he has received more than $10 million in grants from various funding agencies, foundations, and corporations. He has also been involved in several international programming efforts, including his participation on USAID projects and his current role as leader of a new USAID Working Group at Auburn.

Fadamiro holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Federal University of Technology in Akure, Nigeria. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Oxford in Oxford, U.K., where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar. Before joining Auburn’s faculty, Fadamiro worked at many institutions within and outside of the U.S., including the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Iowa State University, University of Minnesota, and Minnesota Department of Agriculture.
